1540 Laser Treatment for Scars
The 1540 wavelength laser is a Fractional Non-Ablative Skin Resurfacing laser. The laser’s energy targets water beneath the thin surface layer of the skin. These tiny micro beams create deep columns penetrating the layers of dermis without harming the epidermis and the superficial layers.
Heat from the laser stimulates collagen growth, and new healthy tissue is formed as a response to the laser’s “controlled injuries” to the sub-dermis and mid layers. The 1540 laser improves elasticity and the tone and texture of skin.
The 1540 wavelength laser can be used as a stand-alone treatment or in combination with other treatments.
Why is the 1540 Laser such a great treatment?
Unlike ablative lasers, this laser does not remove the outer most layer of the skin (epidermis) or the superficial layers of the dermis. The skin remains intact after the treatment. So there is no social down time.
As a fractional laser procedure, the micro beams target only a fraction of the skin at a time. As a result, new collagen production is stimulated and how existing collagen fibers are tightened and rearranged.
This advanced technology allows for quick healing and no downtime of peeling skin. Downtime does not exceed 2-3 days. Whereas ablative treatments require downtime and recovery for oozing, crusting skin which involves 1-3 weeks.
What to expect after treatment?
You may experience mild swelling, redness, itching, and burning. It is typical for patients to have this treatment done on a Friday and have skin looking fresh by Monday.
How many treatments will you need?
For optimum results, patients need 4-6 1540 laser treatments roughly two to four weeks apart. Improvements may be noticeable after 2 treatments.
