It is a skin treatment to help minimize sun damage, liver spots, broken capillaries, rosacea, and birthmarks. IPL uses multiple wavelengths of light instead of one focused wavelength. The light penetrates to the dermis (second layer of your skin) without harming the top layer (epidermis). It is non-invasive, and a cosmetic treatment to treat the face, hands, neck, and chest.
IPL is great for:
· age spots
· sun damage
· freckles
· birthmarks
· varicose veins
· broken blood vessels (face)
· rosacea
The area treated is cleansed and free of make-up and creams. A numbing cream is then applied to the area 20 minutes prior to treatment. The IPL handpiece gently glides over the skin while light pulses are applied. As the pulses of light are applied to the skin, patients feel some stinging, similar to a small rubber band snapping against the skin. Treatment is about 15-20 minutes.
For optimal results, patients need a series of treatments 3 to 6 spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart.
After IPL, you can experience mild swelling and redness up to a few days. This is normal. Brown spots may appear darker for a few days and flake off.
Some experience additional side effects such as pinpoint bruising, blistering, change in skin color, and possible infection.
You can apply sunscreen and makeup immediately after IPL treatment.
It is important to protect your skin from the sun and apply a daily sunscreen.
